The Think Contraception campaign is an integrated campaign developed to contribute to the prevention of crisis pregnancy. It incorporates the Think Contraception communications campaign and the Think Contraception health education outreach campaign. Thinkcontraception.ie is a source of information for men and women living in Ireland who want to learn more about their sexual and reproductive health, especially contraception.
”Nobody else is going to do the thinking for you”

1. Think Contraception Communications Campaign
The Crisis Pregnancy Programme's health promotion programme on prevention, Think Contraception, targets sexually active 18–24 year olds and aims to counteract the inconsistency of contraceptive use which is a key contributor to crisis pregnancy. The campaign promotes the message that ‘Nobody else is going to do the thinking for you’ with regards to contraceptive use. The campaign focuses on promoting the thinkcontraception.ie website as a key educational tool which provides information on all aspects of sexual health in an interactive and user-friendly manner.
2. Think Contraception Health Education Outreach Campaign
To engage with sexually active young adults on the issue of crisis pregnancy prevention and sexual health promotion, the Crisis Pregnancy Programme conducts a health education outreach campaign. The primary aim of this campaign is to promote the importance of planning ahead at events where sexual risk taking may occur. The secondary aim is to heighten awareness among young adults of the probability of sexual risk taking with alcohol consumption especially in holiday/away from home/entertainment/college/workplace settings. It also aims to renew their knowledge on benefits of condom use and contraception awareness and provides information and condom interventions on site at events and key locations.
The Oxegen festival in July 2009 was the largest event at which Think Contraception Protection Packs were disseminated. 20,000 Think Contraception Protection Packs were disseminated to the festival attendees at this event. Each pack contained a condom, a sexual health information leaflet and festival safety tips from event organiser MCD.
Thinkcontraception.ie
Thinkcontraception.ie is a comprehensive resource which contains interactive information on contraception, sexual health, fertility and sexually transmitted infections as well as a sexual health quiz. The website thinkcontraception.ie is primarily designed to support people in choosing a contraceptive method that best suits their health and lifestyle. Each method is presented in a clear and simple format and covers questions such as how effective the method is, does it protect against STIs, and how it is used.
